Frequently Asked Questions
Q:
Will there come a time when you will have to
stop giving free domain names and start charging us. I'd like to be
reassured that we won't have to pay all of a sudden.
A:
We will never charge our free users a cent, once you have sign up
for a free domain name, it is free for life, we guarantee it. We have
grow rapidly since our launch, we have registered more domain names
in 3 month than all the .org domain Network Solutions have registered
for years. We have became one of the top domain extention ahead of
.gov, we are here to stay and will continue to provide quality free
services.
Q:
I have just signed up for a .com-2 domain name,
and set it to redirect visitors to my web site at Geocities, but the
redirection is not working, what went wrong?
A:
The redirection should work immediately after you signed up, you will
need to check your redirecting/forwarding web address and see if it
type in correctly, make sure there's NO "http://"
at front of the redirecting/forwarding web address. i.e.: it should
be in the form of www.geocities.com/hollywood/5678/index.html, NOT
http://www.geocities.com/hollywood/5678/index.html. If all fail, please
email us for help.
Q:
I have just signed up for a .com-2 domain name,
but I have not received any email confirmation, what went wrong?
A:
You may have enter an incorrect administrator email address when you
sign up, log onto the control panel from www.com-2.net home page using
your domain name (e.g yourname.com-2.net) and password, once logon
change the administrator email address, make sure you type in the
full email address, e.g. in the form of [email protected]
etc, NOT just "yourname" alone. It is important you
type in the correct admin email address, because all correspondence
(including forgotten password) regarding your domain will be send
to that address.
Q:
I couldn't logon, what went wrong?
A:
Make sure you got the correct username (which is your domain name,
e.g yourdomain.com-2.net, NOT www.youdomain.com-2.net) and
correct password, if you have forgotten your password, you can click
on the "forgotten password" link and enter your username
(your domain name as described above), the password will be email
to your administrator email address.
Q:
I couldn't receive email, what went wrong?
A:
Make sure you have created the email account by logging on to the
control panel and make sure you have set up your email programme correctly
(see HELP for instruction on how to set up
POP3 email account on your computer). Please note that your
email account will only be activated one hour after it is created.
Please also note there was an odd case-sensitivity problem
in the mail program. We are going to to fix the problem, but before
the problem is fixed, you must be aware that the password and username
are case-senstive.
Q:
I couldn't send email, what went wrong?
A:
To stop people using our SMTP server for sending out unwanted spam
mail, we have put a lock in place, this mean you must first run your
email program to receive email before you can send any email. Just
a friendly reminder that you should not use your domain name and email
service for any illegal activities such as SPAM, distributing computer
VIRUS, We monitor such activities everyday and we will immediately
delete any account associated with such activities and we will take
legal action to recover from the user any damage made.
If
it is still not work, make sure you have created the email account
by logging on to the control panel and make sure you have set up your
email programme correctly (see HELP for instruction
on how to set up POP3 email account on your computer). Please note
that your email account will only be activated one hour after it is
created. Please also note there was an odd case-sensitivity
problem in the mail program. We are going to to fix the problem, but
before the problem is fixed, you must be aware that the password and
username are case-senstive.
Q:
How do I publish my web site?
A:
.com-2 only provided domain name, POP3 email and domain redirection
service, i.e. we will point your domain name to any website, but we
don't host web site, so you can't upload your site to us, you will
have to open an account with any of the free web hosting companies
such as geocities.com, bizland.com etc then we will point your domain
to your web site (e.g. a web site in geocities). We have nothing to
do with free web hosting companies such as geocities, bizland etc
Q:
I hold a non-dotcom2 domain name, and I have
signed up for your service, I have also ask my domain name administrator
to point my domain name to your DNS servers, but the redirection is
still not working, what went wrong?
A:
Sometime it will take upto 48 hours for your domain name register
to update their DNS database. If after 48 hours the redirection is
still not working, you will need to check your redirecting/forwarding
web address and see if it type in correctly, make sure there's NO
"http://" at front of the redirecting/forwarding web address.
i.e.: it should be in the form of www.geocities.com/hollywood/5678/index.html,
NOT http://www.geocities.com/hollywood/5678/index.html. If
all fail, please email
us for help.
Q:
How do I set up subdomain names under my domain?
A:
You will have to sign up for a separate account for each sub domain
you want to creat under your domain name. It is the same as signing
up for a new account, the only difference is that you will type: "subdomain.yourdomain"
in the domain box instead of just "yourdomain" (where:
yourdomain is your current domain name and subdomain
is the subdomain name you want to create under your current domain
name)
Q:
How do I delete email accounts or change passwords
of the email accounts?
A:
At the moment you can't delete email account that you have created
nor change their passwords, we are currently working on a function
which will let users delete email accounts. This will be available
sometime next month.
Q:
How come the title of my web page have changed
to "HOME"?
A:
"HOME"
is the default title for all our user's redirection pages, we are
currently working on a function which
will let users change the title of their redirection pages.
